Has anyone grown a Frances Meiland rose before

So since moving to florida i feel like i have to relearn everything as far as gardening goes. what worked in MA is not the case down here. But i HAVE to have at least 1 rose to take care of , that being said while at a nursery today i came across this rose and i just bought it (i know i know) but was wondering if it could grow in a pot? Also could someone tell me more about this rose and how to keep it happy and what to watch out for. TIA , also please dont mind the typos im used to autocorrect taking care of that but aparently its mot working today

i love it! i had it in the ground for a year then moved it to a pot and it survived the transfer just fine if you need to change it up after a year or so. it like to be fed regularly, otherwise will be stingy with blooms. blooms last forever and are fragrant and gorgeous. it does grow tall for a pot, but you can keep it trimmed down. im 6’ so the height doesnt bother me much. it has beautiful long stems,so its easy to keep it shorter when you cut/prune. an upright growing habit, low thorn

FM is a big girl and grows 6' tall easily. I think it needs a big pot.

So i think ive decided against the pot, im going to put in ground..its just too pretty of a rose to risk it , thank you for advice

It is going next to my new white clematis. I hope I dont kill the clem. I haven't had great luck with them.

Here it is in San Jose, California. Not too many flowers - tall plant- i grow it in the shade. but extremely beautiful flowers!

Mine has been stingy for the past 2-3 years I've grown it, but I take heart in Sunny's comment that he likes to have a lot of fertilizer. I will respond appropriately from now on :-D

Roses grow well here -- too well -- in fact, they grow themselves to death. Be sure you use as much organic matter as possible in the planting hole. I was taught to plant them in straight organic peat, but I don't think you can find that easily anymore. Black Kow is just as good. The cheap roses are on Dr. Huey rootstock and usually last about 5 years in the ground before the nematodes get them. The ones on Fortuniana rootstock will last anywhere from 15-20 years. Native and what we call "own root" roses (mostly heirlooms that can grow on their own roots) can grow forever. Mini roses must be grown in pots for them to last any time at all. Rose growing here is labor intensive because of insects and fungus. As a fungus preventative, spray them with fungicide recommended for roses every ten days and with an insecticide the same. If you don't mind using chemicals, Bayer makes a great systemic insecticide for roses. I gave up growing them years ago, so I'll let someone else tell you what insecticides are recommended now.
