Mistake Caulking Floating Panels. How to Remove ?

Hey guys I recently sprayed my cabinets with Sherwin Williams Kem Aqua. Before I sprayed my cabinets I caulked the panels after I primed. My house is pretty dry in the winter and very humid in the summer. I used Sherwin Williams Powerhouse caulk to caulk the panels. I watched the Idaho Painter on YouTube and that is where I got the idea to do it to prevent bridging. I think it would have looked better without caulking in my scenario and probably been more forgiving if I used a latex paint and something not as hard as a lacquer.

But what is the best way to clean the old caulk out so I can re spray the doors? Thanks

We sometimes caulk things before we spray. I would try to recaulk with latex.

The loose part in the door is meant to be able to move. Expand and contract, and they should never be caulked. You can remove it and sand down, but, its going to mean repainting the cabinets.

Yeah I agree. Things we learn as we go. Watching the Idaho painter who’s well known, and he was talking about caulking the panels to prevent bridging. I thought man that’s a good idea till winter hit and my houses humidity is around 30%. Just watched one of his recent videos and now he’s says he rarely caulks cabinet doors.

Spud painter is a well known hack in the professional community. Clickwhore good at social media. Terrible terrible painter.

Strip completely, dig out the caulk with dental pics, DA wash, and start over. With a better coating than kem aqua.
