Paint cabinets

I want to paint cabinets and replace backsplash. I can’t afford to replace granite at this time. Backsplash small cream color 1x4 subway tile in herringbone design. Last picture show colors I’m thinking of. Suggestions

Yes, from a distance, cabinets are showing wear and tear and backsplash is dated

I don't care for either of those colors with the countertop. If they really need painting repaint white and change the backsplash

Jck910. What countertops would you use? I’m doing the exact color cabinets for my kitchen and can’t figure out what color countertops to get. I’m really bad at this stuff.

I really don’t want to do white as all my trim, doors etc are an off white/cream

I also like contrast of island being one color and rest of cabinets another

Do you find the island shows a lot of dust and grime?

    No not really!

Awesome! I’m doing the opposite. Cream island and navy wall cabinets. I just can’t decide on countertops. I have no eye for design.

If your cabinets need to be painted, they need to be painted.

I would not choose the charcoal gray. That is too dark with your other dark elements.

I'm not a fan of the lighter gray either, especially since you are doing a cream backsplash.

I might think about going with a cream/ivory again. Maybe one just a little different from what you have, so you get to have some newness.

I would even think about a color, but you have such a strong black/white/cream vibe going on that any color will look out of place.

If I were to keep the cream color or cabinets, what color would you paint the island

I was going to paint island the darker color and refresh the cabinets with the lighter. I am not totally sure with backsplash, but something simple. The color of the mantle was what I was going for and as you can see the is not far off

So hard as cameras do not pick up colors that well

IMO those choices will be too much grey and nothing to lighten it up….

Are the cabinets white or cream?

    Cream

I am thinking I might have to rethink this! 😩. I wish I could afford to change granite but it is not in the cards right now

Thank you ! What type of paint. Benjamin Moore?

Beverly, do you have a suggestion for my backsplash. I was going for a plain subway 1x4 in a herringbone design Your thoughts?

    Please not gray…

    No

Beverly's suggested paints are from Sherwin Williams, if that's what you're asking. I'm sure you could find something that works from Benjamin Moore, though, or have them match those - they should have a formula.

I'd get your cabinets repainted first, then decide on a backsplash.

Kudos to getting rid of the backsplash though. Your house was never in Tuscanny and it never will be. That faux-Tuscan look was tacky from day #1 in my opinion. Never liked it.

Beverly clearly showed where your colors need to go. First paint the cabinets, THEN change the backsplash. You can make a huge tile choice mistake not waiting to see what the paint colors look like on your cabinets, in your lighting. I would also wait to make the island color decision.
SW will color match BM and Vice versa.
    Nice house!

If your cabinet is not charging as much, or more, as replacing your counters, then you have hired entirely the wrong ”paint guy”. The average for that kitchen from an actual cabinet finishing pro would be about $9500-$11,500.

A bad failing paint job is going to have to be stripped off, or any new job will never be a quality job. Most people prefer to buy new doors, as it us cheaper than the labor to strip the existing.

    Thank you

I haven’t had any experience with Sherwin Williams paint. I love the colors Beverly chose and would love to use them. I know Benjamin Morse can match, but thought I would ask if anyone has used there paint on cabinets?

Benjamin Moore has a specialty enamel line for cabinet paints. NOT Aura or Advance. Oil-based and not under the BM label. Sorry I don't have that name at my fingertips.

I found the brochure: INSL-X cabinet coat specialty paint made by Ben Moore.
