I would use matte on the ceiling, it would help with camouflaging any imperfections in the sheetrock. Satin / eggshell would showcase imperfections, as they have more sheen.

I’d go shiny so light will bounce around, and I’d think the dark would hide imperfections because you wouldn’t see shadows, but really it’s what you want your dark ceiling to do…matte and it looks limitless like a night sky or shiny and reflective of a little light.

I would still do flat.
