Washing a Dry clean Comforter

I am on the East Coast this week as my beloved Mother is in the hospital after falling and breaking a hip. I am trying to do as much at my folks' house as I can. On one of the beds is a Martha Stewart queen comforter that specifies Dry Clean. It is 100% Polyester. I bet it has not been cleaned in years. I am getting ready to strip that bed, and wanted to get some advice on what might happen if I wash it rather than take it to the dry cleaners. My parents are in their 90's so its appearance is no longer critical. I am more interested in making sure it is clean and still proving warmth. I would be washing it in their Maytag Bravos HE on the bulky cycle. I would select warm water, and spin it out twice. They use Tide pods here. Any hints will help me greatly.
