The Dry Clean only tag might be more of a CYA thing we see on so many items.

Depending on how dirty it truly is and the hardness/softness of the local water, a pod might be too much detergent. I have to reduce the detergent dose when I wash blankets, bedpsreads and quilts because only some areas are really dirty and not the whole thing.

Otherwise, it's worth a try if you're willing to gamble on it. Generally, polyester won't shrink.

in addition, I'd suggest an additional rinse if you have that option on the washer.

If it was me, with this comforter, I would wash it as you mentioned. If it falls apart, getting another of simliar stats is fairly easy.

I would machine wash it for sure. Polyester washes very easily, does not tend to fade, and does not tend to shrink. I would wash it on hot, but probably warm would be okay too.

The Bulky cycles on two of my HE toploaders, including the designated Synthetic Comforter variation, are hard-coded for warm (which is ATC at 122°F) and cannot be changed. The choice for lower temps (Warm-, Cold+, or Tap Cold) is Delicate in non-HE mode.

Thanks for all of the responses. Preparing to go in there and pull everything off the bed. I'll report back what happened after I wash and dry the comforter. I will definitely use the second rinse option, and will do a drain and spin after it completes the initial cycle. Here's hoping I don't lift the lid and find it in pieces or two sizes too small!
