14 lights in your master are far too many. You want the cans in the main ceiling at least 24” from the wall- if the tray starts 30” from the outside wall justify the cans tight to the start of the tray. Skip the cans up in the tray and get a pretty light fixture to draw your eye up.

I agree this is abedroom not a kitchen and no need for all those pot lights . What was the reason for the addition of trya ceilings just out of curiosity . BTW no 6' cans the biggest I ever go with LED is 4" and do not get talked out of that.

Wow I didn’t notice the 6” annotation- you would be able to perform surgery in there with that much light!

for the master, i would consider something pretty for the center of the tray on its own switch, much better for nighttime ambiance

Thanks for all the comments. Answers to various comments:

- The tray starts 3' from the wall

- We put the trays in to give the rooms a bit larger / taller feel - @Patricia Colwell Consulting - why do you ask?

- We are planning to put a ceiling fan in the middle of the room (we are in California, so big value add for us)

- We are also going to add a LED strip inside the tray. So perhaps the nighttime ambiance suggested by @RL Relocation LLC and others.

- We are planning to do 4" LEDs outside the tray @Patricia Colwell Consulting @HALLETT & Co.

Sounds like everyone suggests removing the lights inside the tray. In which case, we should probably do

- 6x of the 4" LED outside the tray

- LED strip along edge of tray

- ceiling fan in the center - perhaps get a beautiful looking one

Will this make the center of the room too dark?

I assume the same advice applies for the Bedroom #2 as well.

Bedroom #1 is as big as the master, so again will go with the same advice.

The size of the lighting depends on the height of the ceiling. We have 6” led super clean flush lights on our 12‘ ceiling. If you go too small and your ceiling is too high, you wont have enough light. The lighting that is made today cannot be compared to the ugly cans of the 90s. In fact, I dont think that you call these lights cans at all, thats old terminology, they are called led wafers. Who even uses ”cans” now a days ?

Also, better to have more light that not enough, All of our lighting is connected to smart dimmers.

We also had a few of these Wafers installed, they have a halo of light (night light) when you flip the switch. We have them in the master hall, back garage hall, and in my master WC. They give just enough light to see where youre going at night without blasting bright lights. It nice when you have guests and you can illuminate hallways at night.
