Tropical Plants Palms & Cycads

Transplanting small cycads

Is it always necessary to remove all the leaves when transplanting even small cycads? I have several small cycads that I need to take with me when I move. They have caudexes about 12 in in circumference which is about 4 to 5 in diameter roughly. They have a good number of leaves. I know big ones have to have the leaves completely removed. But what about the small ones? Thanks

A nearby neighbor grows Bismarck in their front and back yard. It does appear to withstand frond trimming well.

Another neighbor up a few streets has a very lovely Sago palm that appears to have no issue with being kept neatly trimmed.

I read that both Bismarck and Sago are drought tolerant.

With the exception of home improvement stores and nurseries I have never known anyone growing them as potted specimens.
