Nice idea, but the cost would mount up massively doing this.

It is true that I have suggested including the dining room into the space and moving plumbing and electrics. I estimate this adds £6/7k to the bill (or £10k if you decide to swap the kitchen window for a door to the garden). However I suspect it will add far more to the value of your house and does mean it’s possible to get more around a dining table and it avoids having a second sofa space that is too narrow.

To make your budget stretch further consider economies in the kitchen such as buying a used kitchen

This used kitchen illustrates you can buy a lot of kitchen and then pick and choose what bits fit your space. Don’t forget to add £1k for transporting it, £3 to fit it, and you may need to budget £1-4k for replacement worktops if you can’t make these work.

However buying a used kitchen you can spend £10 and it looks like you have spent more.

I think Jonathan's design is better as it will allow more storage. You will be able to incorporate a bank of tall units in which to integrate the oven, microwave, fridge, freezer and even the washer and dryer if they are not going in a utility area. Your existing area (although you anticipate 18 units) looks rather small.

Look at the Wren FB website especially Wren Kitchen disasters before you consider them. Their units and customer service are appalling. I would price up with an independent if you do not go second hand as the choice and pricing system is far better than the big sheds.

So, the builders are booked to carry out the open plan. Did the kitchen retailer rounds. Wren, Howdens, Sigma3, Avant Garde and AC distribution. Still to do the 3D designs, but thats all planned this week with all except Howdens. The Avant Garde are selling Symphony and Mobilturi. Heard bad reviews about Symphony units. Ac distribution are interesting as they make their own units in Wales. They appear reasonably made. Anybody use AC distribution or Avant Garde in Cardiff?

Wren has loads of quality control issues. Look on Wren Kitchen Disasters and also the Wren Kitchen FB sites. Howdens have no idea in my area what a design even means.

Have you looked at an indepentent? They are no more expensive and offer far more choice as they are not stuck to one supplier and furthermore their customer service is far better.

Went to Kutchenhaus today. Nobilia owned I believe. Nice bespoke kitchens, and some interesting design ideas. Pricey and long lead times of 10-12 weeks.

It always good to look at independent kitchen companies prices are similar to high street but are better quality.

Jumping on this - a couple of you have suggested independents but do you have any recommendations (for SW London) or tips on how to find reliable / good quality but also reasonable pricing? We’ve tried googling but many don’t have indicative prices which makes it hard!

Are there any local independents on FB? Many don’t display prices because they hold such a vast range it is almost impossible to offer prices for everything. If you already have a plan suggest submitting it to them for a price

I am an independent designer and supplier, every kitchen is unique therefore would have to look at the plans , style required etc before providing a quote.
