1” gap between window and frame

Is this normal? We just had a new window installed but there is a 1” gap on the top. I think it’s mid-sized since I have an identical window on the other side without the gap.

Should I ask the contractor to get a new correctly sized window? Or will he fill this in with something and that would be okay?

This is what the outside looks like…

It’s mismeasured unfortunately. It’s going to look a bit different most noticeably from the exterior once he caps and seals the window. Perhaps you can split the cost and request a reorder. From a aesthetics standpoint it might be worth it.

    Someone bumbled a measurement.

What does it look like on the inside at the bottom? It was ordered to short but a head expander would have helped to hide the sins. It could be filled in , what is acceptable depends on how they do it and what you’re willing to accept.

    I would want it replaced.

Looks like the top interior stop is missing?

Can't say with certainty without knowing what came out and the methodology behind that measurement, but it does look like the height was measured short... although maybe not as short as it appears if a top stop still needs to go up.

I agree with Todd that it would be nice to see an interior shot of the window's bottom edge.

    Someone's eating a window.

That would not be acceptable to me. I would want a new window ordered. I hate to lose any glass to frame and this amount would be unacceptable. The gap at the bottom on the outside seems extremely large, even with the trim piece that has not been installed yet. (Maybe because the provided piece is too small?)

Here is the full view of the window inside. If it were to be raised at all then the outside gap would be so much bigger.

Even less acceptable seeing the inside at the bottom. The window frame frame should drop down below the windowsill, butting against it. Not 3/4” above it. My guess is the window is 1 1/2 - 2” too short.

Clearly they were way short on the top even after jacking this window up about an inch on the bottom. They are also bad at hiding there f ups. I can only imagine what they are going to do on the exterior, if you let them get that far.
