Depends on the cabinet, shelf style and heights, and even what is displayed. If you have face frames you can put the LED strips on the backside so you can't see them. Also, you can get covers for LED units that "hide" each diode. Or if your shelves have a front lip, you can hide the light strip behind that under each shelf. Otherwise, stick to a puck style light from above.

The cleanest look is led. The cabinet maker can make a tiny trim piece to hide the strip. I had pucks in my last home and they were fine but they were clearly seen. You need glass shelving to make it work tho, without it your top shelf is the ony lit one, it kind of defeats the purpose.

This is what I was speaking of for a strip on the backside (simple tape light) of a face frame. Do not limit yourself to horizontal mounting only. Here is an example though without a face frame, using the door to hide them. And no glass shelves.

We also did inside the frame. LED strips plug in above cabinets and ran down the underside and back up the inside of the glass cabinets. They are only visible from the side if you are looking for them even. Otherwise not visible.

Looks great, and much more even distribution of light.

oh wow @J Hack. That looks so nice. I'm not sure I understand how to do this - do you tape the light tape strip inside the cabinet door? And not inside the cabinet carcass? Are these the tapes with the little dots or something else?
