Time for a Kitchen Update

It’s time to brighten up my kitchen. I’d love to hear your ideas.
I’ve considered painting cabinets in SW Alabaster. I’d love to replace “busy” granite, but would rather spend the money elsewhere right now.

I will be painting the trim and walls not only in the kitchen, but throughout the home.

And, bringing some color to the dining room table and hutch.

I would love your ideas!

Trim paint color
Wall color
Flooring
Window treatments
Lighting

Remove the ceiling box lighting/the valance/wood blinds. Install recessed lighting. Paint the wall, ceiling, and trim all the same warm white in the appropriate finishes…ceiling/walls matte, doors/trim egg shell. The cabinets seem to be good quality/condition…they go to the ceiling…and the granite looks really nice with them. Change out the back splash. If the budget allows, consider updating to stainless steel appliances and changing the dining furniture. What type of flooring is currently there?

    What a pretty space!

I agree with Susan, other than the suggestion to change to stainless steel appliances; I actually think your white appliances look very nice and in great condition, plus they help keep the space bright.

To my eye, the main culprits making the space feel darker are the kitchen ceiling light, the large dark fan over the dining table, the medium-dark shade of the bay window blinds, and the hutch. They all match beautifully but they're not bright. Those seem like the easiest changes to make aside from painting the walls. I think your trim is lovely and wouldn't paint it, even if that's currently the dominant trend.

I think replacing that light box, would be the main thing. Probably painting the trim would be good as well but I think the light really overpowers it. I like your cabinets and don't think I would paint them (but they would good painted. I just wouldn't bother). I could see possibly painting the dining room hutch.

I would definitely change out the runner rugs .

I think it's a very nice spacious kitchen from what I can see.

The light box needs to be taken out. I also agree about the valance and those very dark blinds. The cabinets themselves look great. I wouldnt be painting those. I would also replace the rugs on the floor for something a bit brighter, and a different color. Oh, and I like the white appliances in your kitchen too.

Thank you for the comments! What do you suggest for a backsplash?
We are replacing the travertine on the floor. It’s been horrible since day one. Thinking something simple because of the “busy” granite.

What are your thoughts on binds? Color?

Maybe a stone look lvt in a light - medium color that would complement warm white walls? Mannington Adura has some nice, not too busy, options. Easy upkeep and feels better underfoot than travertine.
