Next Stepson a Zero Entry Shower Install

Hello all,

Few (urgent) questions as I’m concerned and want to get things going in the right direction with my contractor.

In the process of renovating my master bath. Removing shower with separate tub and replacing with a larger shower. I requested a zero entry/barrier free shower entry from the contractor. They have the space demo’ed and here are the questions:

  1. They want to use the tub drain (1.5”) versus the shower drain (2”) for the new shower. Is this an issue?

  2. Shower has one exterior wall (block). Does it need insulation before the Durock? It had something today, but looks like a vapor barrier (see picture) and I’m in Orlando, Florida if it makes a difference.

  3. For the curbless entry, sounds like they were planning to pour self leveling concrete to raise the shower floor to match the bathroom floor (it was previously recessed about 2” which I thought was a benefit to allow me to go with a zero entry.) This is my biggest concern since I thought the concrete would be lower in the shower floor, but he’s saying only like 1/2” to slope to the drain. Not sure about all the space for “pan/liner”? What would be the proper next steps from what you’re seeing in the picture? I think we came to agreement the area by the tub needs to be sloped down so that will need to be addressed tomorrow.

Thank you!
