Ask the architect why they brought it up.

My understanding is once you start making renovations they have to be up to current code, otherwise everything is grandfathered in.

Can we see a floor plan? Btw that looks like a free standing unit.

I thought ADA codes only applied to public and commercial buildings. Homes can be built with ADA standards in mind, but I don't think they are actually building code requirements.  I'd certainly want to clarify with the architect.

The co-op board is reviewing his comments. im hoping they disregard it, otherwise i will definitely try to engage the architect and push back. Especially since this apt will never be wheelchair friendly, so seems silly to pick out that one thing thats not compliant

Why does that wardrobe have to be “built in” as opposed to a movable piece of furniture?

If i could buy a piece of furniture that i liked that was configured exactly how i wanted it, I would consider that. There will also be a component that will house my television.

But these are very common in NYC where closet space can be scarce.
