Why a set? That seems unnecessarily limiting. Find the table, then find chairs you like. This approach is trending now probably because it makes things A LOT easier and the end look more flexible and easier to fine tune to one's own tastes.

yes that is something I have been pursuing too. It has not been easy to find a table more than 100 inches wide

Come on there are a ton of tables that are close to 100" BTW that is the length not the width a 96" table can seat 8 and if wide enought 10. I need more info and also what do you mean by modern and what is the size of your space. Could you not get a smaller table that has a way to enlarge or do you need 8 seats all the time. The more info we get the better we can help. Without info all that will happen is dozens of pics but no real help.. I even need to know why wood at all.
