IMO the fastes way to devalue your house is to apint the brick that IMO should ba last resort and best not done. This one of my faves for brick homes and I bet done on yours will be ahuge improvement Do everything that is either white or black now in that green. Then in the spring get to work on the landscaping that os where the curb appeal is going to make that house look awesome and no paint needed for that beautiful brick

Your brick is classic and looks good with the white trim and black shutters. One suggestion would be to paint the downspouts to blend in. Agree landscaping will really help.

That being said, the gray/green in Patricia's photo can be really nice with brick, too. Another option with brick is Benjamin Moore's Tarrytown Green. It would look nice for your shutters and door with white trim.

Did you mean the downspouts? Those in front looked to be well placed to take the heaviest run off from your roof where they are now. Find a paint that best matches your brick and paint them, I've found they take a latex paint and hold onto it very well if you wash them with a brush and soapy water first.

Your brick is beautiful, and it goes well with your roof. I wouldnt be staining that. Your landscaping, can use a lot of work, and thats where I would be putting my time and money.

Your brick is indeed beautiful. The landscaping, however, is very poor. Employ a skilled landscape designer to help you remove most of the existing and install new sophisticated beds/walkways in keeping with the dignity of your fine home. Starting with the removal of that orange brick sidewalk. What were they thinking? That the orange was ”close enough?”

What it needs is a drop-dead gorgeous new border. Gather ideas, remove the old decor items, amend soil with compost and fertilizer, then replant.

I was going to recommend Romavio too! As BeverlyFLADeziner did. I love that look and then select a paint that matches well to paint the downspouts. Can you add a great front entry sconce on the side wall?

Landscaping would be the prime order of business. If you still don't like it, then consider a masonry treatment from Romabio.

I love your brick! Agree with painting your downspouts a color closer to the brick so they don't stand out. Otherwise you have a very attractive house.

Regardless if you paint your brick, you still have a VERY large reddish brown roof. Unless that is changed, you will still be driven by its color. Painting or lightening the color of your brick will, in fact, make the roof stand out more. My first thought when I saw your photo? Re-roof.

I would not permanently alter your brick color. It’s lovely and fits the style of your house well.

This idea that brick has to be “updated” and painted/changed like they’re walls is an HGTV trend on it’s way out.

As someone currently looking at real estate, I will not even consider painted, limewashed, or stained masonry in this price range. Especially DIY jobs, which rarely look like those shiny inspiration (sometimes digital renderings) pictures people post.

Landscaping will wake this elegant house up. Get a local pro to come in for a consult.

What exactly are you trying to achieve - just a newer fresher look? How bout just a new livelier color for door (paint sidelights same color) and shutters. The greens above are good or maybe a dark inky navy blue. Greens and blues are opposite reds (ie your brick/roof) and yellows (cream trim) on color wheel - i.e. complementary colors. Also look up 60-30-10 rule - applies to exterior as well as interior. There is a science to the art of color selection! Right now your color scheme is working! Tthe proportions are good - main color red-brown (60%), yellow white trim (30%) and then your 10% accent color (currently black). The warm white looks great with your red-browns. I would also like to note that your brick is not the dreaded dull pumpkin color that some people dont like, it is a nice variegated pattern with rich colors. The whitewash thing - it has its place but slapped on anything and everything is just a passing fad and would be huge a mistake for this house. Conceivably you could do a more translucent masonry stain in some darker earthy color (just saw this dark sooty almost-black stain on brick that looked very striking) but then Im back to the question of what do you want to achieve, and why. I agree that getting some flowering shrubs/ ornamental trees/perennials to frame your house and porch is the place to start.
