Just trying to get to the bottom of the grout joint size.

You would need at least 1/4”-1/2” to look like a real mortar set brick. Ain’t nobody gonna redo all of that to make that happen. Unless youre paying for it.

It’s part of a large scale full house remodel and addition. They didn’t follow the directions, so they’ll have to redo it on my builder’s dime per the directions.

Nope. They won’t. Scope of Work Directions are ”use 1/4” grout joints with Custom Natural Gray sanded grout. ” With measured diagrams. It’s not some wishy washy unwritten spec to use ”large” grout lines. That’s not how written specs work. If it isn’t in writing, with dimensions and diagrams, it does not happen. It’s up to the installers experienced judgement.

What you have is actually more difficult. And its fine. You're not ever gonna fool anyone into thinking those are real bricks, no matter how they are set. They are the wrong proportions, too level and clean, with no mold and moss.

The grout joint looks less that 3/8". The tile itself may look like brick, but the grout joint will not resemble a real brick installation.

Actually the MSI page you posted recommends 1/8" for all tile installations under "Installation".

It says "When installed with 3/8" . . . resembles a real brick pattern" under "Features at a Glance"

Actually most old brick floors here are set more like yours in old basements and such.

MSI recommends 1/8" for all installations, but it suggests 3/8" to 1/2" for this particular tile. MSI could word their information sheet a bit better, I guess! :-) Vague design directions from the tile vendor and miscommunication/language barrier between the builder and tile people probably resulted in the 1/8" grout joints. If I'm going to be stuck with this tile as is, I'm grateful it wasn't the primary bathroom. I've made sure the tile people have very clear directions for the remaining tiled areas. Thanks again!

Are the tiles perfectly square on the edges? I ask because the ones we are using aren't and the grout lines sort of thicken up when they grouted it.

They're pretty square on the edges. I wanted real thinset brick, but my builder's vendor didn't carry it. This was the closest to what I wanted, and I do like it a lot!

What do people think the size of the grout joint is in this tile?

(not a pro) I think your floor looks really good! Personally, I think having less grout to clean is a benefit, especially in a mudroom.
