Anyone?

I'm sure there are many opinions, but basically just leave lights on for at least 12 hours, turn off at night and give them a natural night cycle. I think if you leave the lights on all the time you might get more growth but weaker plants.

I have a pair of small 120v/25W LED lights. Right now I just leave them on. The tiny seedlings need it and by the time they start to appreciate a night cycle, they are already being moved outside under caps. Stuff like kale, beets, onions...

Once I start getting stuff like peppers and tomatoes big enough that they need it and don't go outside yet, most of those sized needs plants are under one light and the smaller seedlings the other and I switch off one light at night. Once it's nice enough that they can start going out during the day, they sleep on the kitchen table or out on the porch at night. They don't go back under lights anymore. If the weather is kind of crummy and I don't want them outside, then they go out to the porch into the south facing windows for that day. I have an enclosed porch, so it's right helpful for the plant transitions.

I grew tomatoes indoors under lights for fun. Those got 12 on 12 off like summer hours outside would be.

A bit late to this thread but I run my lights 16-on/8-off. I do this from the time I first note a green hairpin, or an upright sprout poking through the soil/mix. When I see the green hairpin I put *all* the planted cups of this kind of vegetable that were planted at the same time beneath the lights. I keep them on the 16/8, light/dark cycle until they're planted out in the garden. Even young new seedlings need a night cycle. In a week or two your plants should be

ready to transplant out.
