last modified: 4 years ago

Hi guys! lost on how to help my very sterile master bath. it has some good updates but just moved in and ready to get it looking even better! hoping to get a double vanity some point but not in the cards right now…. nice white tile flooring and quartz countertops. 2 closets doors on either side of toilet/shower room. updated frameless shower with white and grey tile and bronze fixtures)

thought of replacing the mirrors/vanity lights , replacing hardware and painting cabinets a grey color with white walls? not sure what to do with the water closet area to tie it in- going for modern farmhouse. master bedroom is light grey paint. thank yiu in advance. having trouble seeing what to do!

Congrats on the new home! I would minimize too much investment until budget allows for a complete update. Paint can be your friend for a simple update now. Consider a subtle color you love for the room with all trim and ceiling in same white paint, just different sheen (flat ceiling and walls and gloss for trim). If you are inclined to move forward with some updating, change cabinet knobs, mirror and light fixture to matte black or whatever you envision for the future remodel. Can keep faucet, door knobs in the brushed nickel or whatever that finish is to balance out using two metals in the space. Move hand towel ring so it's in line with the vanity, looks weird where it is. Then you could add some art, decor or farmhouse shelves on that wall. You could consider doing wallpaper in the watercloset with a happy modern farmhouse look. Possibly a runner rug in front of vanity to bring color in. Good luck!

Here is what I would do

SW Sea Salt on the walls. A very light gray vanity. White towels and gray floor mats.

I prefer a white vanity which is what I used for my guest bathroom.

I think you have enough gray since it is also in your bedroom.

Water closet is painted same SW Sea Salt. But....since it is in an area without a window, the SW Sea Salt might look different. You might like it or not. Easy to change it to a light gray.

You have some great suggestions here. The first thing that jumped out at me was get a bigger mirror to span the entire vanity. One sink isn’t awful. Having counter space to use for hair/makeup while partner uses sink would be desirable for me. Congratulations on your new home!

Agree on the wall mirror and hardware comments above. If you want to go for farmhouse look, might want to add in some black hardware and some wood tones. A wood frame mirror could bring in some texture and interest to your wall. Also consider adding a rug and art work for additional interest. I think decorating is the key for your space. Have fun!

Shiplap halfway up the wall would be a big jump in the modern farmhouse direction with very little cost..i would avoid gray and use country colors if you paint anything…the mirror would be fine if it can be painted to match the shiplap and lowered a little

I do like the shiplack idea too! Would you recommend a white ship lack and then maybe the sea salt color on the top? Would I put ship lack in the water closet too or only paint? The water closet has a small window in it with some light coming in. thank you for your help all!

I think I would save your time, $, and energy and leave the vanity white. Focus on the walls in the sink area. I would find art that speaks “farmhouse” to you and draw a wall color from that for your walls AND your towels, sink area rug, etc. The easiest “update” might be to change the hardware on your vanity and your towel bars to the ORB that is in your shower. A new, larger mirror, and lighting that says farmhouse (sconces on either side of your mirror) will be nice, too. The toilet area just needs paint and perhaps a floor basket for supplies. Maybe art over the toilet? This could be a fun, easy, budget friendly update. Enjoy!

    Great idea too!! Thank you!

Anybody think subway tile wall accent under the mirror would look good? Or too much? Stick to paint only?

Below are a few different bathroom designs we have done for our clients. We might recommend just switching out the hardware, painting the walls and vanity, and updating the mirror.
