What are you trying to accoplish and what is your budget?

If you are getting rid of the tub and vanity (for example) why would you want to decorate around the floor tiles? Do you like them because objectively if you are gutting the tub and replacing the vanity, those tiles are a bit difficult to design around.

I have the tile everywhere except the bedrooms.  I was thinking of the flow of the tile from the hallway. Not against changing it.

"Our bathroom is 60 years" huh?

Well, our house was built in 1962.  We have painted & changed a few things.  The shower & vanity (except for counter & sink) are original.  Just looking for ideas....

Not sure about budget.  We think we should 1sr talk to a plumber because our plumbing is cast iron & see if that needs to be updated...

How long do you plan to live here for? Is this your only bathroom? Do you want a bath shower combo of a walk in shower? Budget? We're planning on finishing our basement, but after my mom lived with us for 4 years, this bathroom will have a wider door, grab bars, a curbless shower and a bidet toilet seat. You should start an idea book, save pictures you like and see if there's a theme. I'm not a designer, but it's usually a good idea to figure out what you are drawn to.

We have lived here for 28 years and are planning on renting out our house and we think we should first update the bathrooms (2)

I would think about who you would want to rent to, families, college students? My first thought was military families, because we stayed in a rental in San Diego in the 60's. ( Dad was a Marine). If kills me to even type this but I would lean basic and durable. Like black and white. Buy extra tile. So you have extra. Grey grout not white. The floor may be a big deal to get rid of. You can look up photo's with terra cotta floors to give you some ideas. Don't go crazy with finishes, look into what rents are going for. I'm not a professional. Hopefully one of the pros will check in
