When I had my galley style kitchen renovated a few years ago; on one side of my kitchen I had soffits above the cabinets to cover pipes. I had simple crown molding placed at the ceiling level there. I am happy with the outcome.

You could poke around and see why you have a soffit- they are often hiding pipes or wiring or duct work. In some cases it may be able to remove the soffit but in many cases it may be too expensive.

Besis111. Thanks!! My cabinets are “Plain and Fancy”. They were custom made in Pennsylvania. Crown molding is an extra cost with cabinetry, but not outrageous. You need to have a carpenter who has attention to detail when installing the crown molding, for it needs to be mitered correctly. I was lucky to have chosen a very experienced carpenter who took extreme pride in his craft, with attention to detail. I had a generous budget for my kitchen reno, as this is my “Forever Home”.
