Kitchen Pass Through windows

Building a new home. The last one had a kitchen pass through window. Loved the idea, but the window was from New Zealand, they do things a little different down under. So looking for new supplier. The kicker is we live in Hawaii and because of mosquitoes, it really needs a screen.

Any thoughts? Window manufacturers that have a screen for this type of window? Screening options?

Having to screen those windows kind of defeats the whole point of using them!

Design for Hawaii where you live and not for Southern CA where the windows would make sense. We lived in LA for 10 years and had no screens on our windows or doors. The only bug we would get in the house would be a fly once in a while.

Phantom Screens can make screen for all types of doors and windows.

Your inspirational pictures are obviously high end windows. But how does someone actually use the counter area for serving or eating? A bifold window means the counter needs to be completely clear to open or close it, with or without a screen.

We just positioned 2 single hung windows side by side (about 6' long total) with screens that can be raised, for our pass through to the patio.

I prefer casements over SH or DH windows, as they are more airtight, but they wouldn't work for the same reasons as the bifold.

We're in MInnesota, so we definitely have mosquitoes!

ETA: The bifold also takes up a lot of the countertop when open.

Screens do defeat the overall purpose of a pass through. However, the screens can be left open the majority of the day, and only used on a night when there is a lack of trade winds and mosquitoes may be active.

The counter (will) extend out to the lanai. The lanai side will have an extended counter with bar stools. It will only be open when in use, and nothing is stored on lanai side of window. The interior counter can be used all the time and is not affected by the window be it open or closed.

Looking for a window that is sold with a screen as a whole unit.

Why not screen the lanai? This is done on a lot of properties in FL. Lanai and pool area have a screen enclosure, so no screens needed for doors, sliders or windows that open to the lanai.

House does not lend itself to a screened in lanai.

I believe that Phantom Screens can make you a custom screen. We used them for our new ”lodge” that we finished last fall.
