gummosis is endemic on prunus.. and almond is prunus ... so there you go

i wonder if your tree was plated too deep.. and that has complicated the issue ... since we usually see it in the upper parts of the tree ..

i gave up on almonds after 3 losses ... it was getting expensive thinking i could beat ma nature on this ...

let us guide you next time you plant some trees... there is no need for pvc pipes ... or do you mean it was there to protect against nibbling vermin???

PVC was to protect trunk from landscapers string edger. Thanks! That name almost seemed made up:) It is not thick/hard and not really sticky. Not sure if that matters maybe it just showed up. I am fairly sure I planted it correctly but grass and mulch getting close might have slowly raised the ground level a little. Maybe 1".

roots are created to be in the ground.. and get wet often ... the trunk of a tree is supposed to be in the air.. and basically dry all the time ..;

sometimes... and i dont me you here ... peeps bury a tree truck an extra foot or so in the ground lets say ... and then the tree dies because the part that is supposed to be dry.. is constantly wet.. leading to all kinds of problems ..

anyway.. why almond.. i know they have pretty pink flowers if the flower show is what your after ... but if you are looking for nut production... i dont know if it will be worth it.. to wait a decade or so.. before the tree might actually produce a crop .. if it will live that long before it gets gumosis ... and yes.. what an appropriate name.. dont you think ...

What ken said. I think it may be planted too deep and there seems to be too much ’stuff’ around the trunk causing it to stay wet. Give it some air flow
