Chrome is classic. SOME matte black is just paint so will chip and wear. Don’t worry about matching hardware to bathrooms, I have chrome and glass door hardware throughout my house including one bathroom that’s all brushed brass. It’s fine.

Ugh. We just ordered Emtek matte black hardware for throughout our house. I hope it holds up okay!

Hopefully with the Emtek, the quality finish will stand up to use. I am using matte black for exterior doors. My dilema is interior doors. The two tone, chrome and black looks beautiful online.

Just an after thought...the doors (and all my trim, ceilings) are B.M. Super White, semi-gloss, and the black matte pair beautifully.

Brushed Chrome

@elcieg, thanks. That sounds like a fun combination. What is your overall style? I'm leaning contemporary and was considering the square crystal knob for the bathrooms.

I'd do a brushed or matte finish rather than a polished one. Handles + hands = fingerprints.

You might also consider that a lever handle is easier to manage than a knob. This may be important if someone develops arthritis or even if you just want to open the door with your elbow.

You're not going to see the two finishes at the same time except possibly from inside the bathroom with the door open. All my bathrooms have chrome on the inside, and the finish for the rest of the house on the outside. Most companies do split finishes.

@jennifer k, thanks. I have a brushed finish now and really don’t like it. I am willing to accept the need to swipe fingerprints from handles, it is just the two of us and leave doors open for the most part. Yes, contemplating knob vs lever as well as finish.
