Amazing floor! I’d go darker with the cabinets, charcoal or black. But what are you going to do about the counters?

Black or charcoal would also tie in the ceiling and trim.

That was quite a bold choice! Whether you go light or dark on the cabs is a matter of preference, but I definitely wouldn’t stain the cabs another brown or copper tone. You have dark ceilings, and unless you like a dark and moody vibe, I’d go lighter and more neutral on the cabs. If you haven’t chosen your countertops yet, I’d stay more subtle there, too.

Thank you for your advice. Such a bummer as The cabinets are cherry wood, was hoping to show off since they were a pricey purchase:(. If I had known the floor would have come out more orangey I wouldn’t have bought cherry. I also already bought butcher block for countertop and going to but linseed oil on it

I really like the color of the stain around the window with the floor, but am afraid too much of that dark color with all the orange will veer into Halloween! But maybe a white on the uppers and wall cabinets and the charcoal on the island? With light counters? I love what you're doing here; what a refreshing change from gray, gray, gray, marble look quartz, etc that everyone is doing. It's a shame to paint cherry cabinets but the natural wood color might not work.
It would be great if one of the talented photoshoppers here could color your cabinets in different shades to give you a visual.

How about a clear matte stain/finish? I think the wood is a beautiful complement to the shine, bright and cool floors.

Does anyone think the weathered gray of the fan would look ok? Would lighter color make it brighter in room since it is such a small area? Im on a ranch and this is an only 1940s barn I’ve had renovated.

The weathered gray cabinets (to match the fan) with the oiled wood countertops sounds like it would be beautiful.

Yes olychick, I want to stay away from the Halloween dark look and that’s what I’m having a hard time with. I love the cherry too.

I think I’m going with weathered gray and dark butcher-

I was just told that butcher look needs to be food-grade oil and to get it dark it needs to me mineral oil. Any suggestions on how to get this look and still be good grade

I think I would go with white cabinets with a section on the back wall stained a natural colour (ex. over the range) to match the butcher block counters. Some black imposing pendants over the island would be a finishing touch. Sketch just an example...

What color of white should I tell them? The walls are alabaster.

Is it Sherwin William Alabaster? Saw this on my computer and it looks like a nice warm white to me. Difficult to say as colours appear differently from one computer to the other and I don't have the SW paint samples here. If it's like I think it is, I would use the same colour,. The difference in finishes (mat vs satin for example) will make it look different while keeping the same colour.

What other colours would you be considering for your cabinets? Although I think the warm white is the best with your floor and dark ceiling.

Cherry is probably not the best for ash grey, as it tends to go reddish over time. However, I think the natural cherry might look good with your floor. You could have it done natural. You could always have it painted later if you change your mind.

I think all ash grey would be dark with your floors but I'll do the sketch. In the meantime, I did the section above your range in ask grey... (that's SW Ash Grey).

How about this instead? Ash Grey island, all white kitchen...

This way you'd get to see some of the wood veining in the island.

This shows SW Ash Grey with the butcherblock countertop.

You might want to get a small can of the paint you are considering and paint a large board of it to see how the colour goes with your floor and in your lighting.

The digital mockup makes the white seem very brash against the warmth of your floor IMO. I like the option of a grey/dark blue/black island against the floor. I think that a clear finish on the uppers of your cherry cabinets could be nice. It would tie the darker island and the ceiling colour to the bold floor.

to 4arnottp: this is just a mockup, the white colour for the cabinets is the same as the walls but in a different finish. The island is a dark grey.

Lisedv, could you do a mock up with cherry (or wood colored uppers) and the gray island, just for comparison? Please :-).

lisedv, what stain are you thinking for the Cherry Wood in this mockup for the ash gray island? Is the stain called ash gray from Sherwin Williams? Super pretty guys!!!

I just took this off a picture and don't have stain samples here. If you tell me which make of stain you intend to use I can look at it. However I strongly recommend to make a sample before going ahead and staining all your cabinets.

I will for sure share what I do in the end! I am now super excited with all of these ideas....

I don't know about a gray stain. get a spare piece of cherry and sample some colors.

what if you did an ebony stain, or a Whiskey color stain WITH a black glaze? you'll get this look

the black glaze will lightly settle into any grain and give the whiskey color a darker, more aged look. I'd try it out on some raw cherry.

Lizedv, I will get whatever stain you tell me that best matches that ash gray in picture or even a few. I will go buy them and test them out.

Sounds like your cabinets are expensive, don't you have a professional to do the staining? There are different types of stains so perhaps you can ask which one they use, and which brand.

I've been researching stains for cherry wood and really not obvious to see colours online. As previously mentioned, ask your professional to match the colour shown on cabinet below, and again colour appear differently from one computer so it's something that has to be done on site. I do have a painter and he says to stain natural to see the rich color. Sample was beautiful so I think Im going to stay with that. I am confussed on weather to paint or stain ashh gray on island part as I am keeping the wall cabinets natural as in picture

I think that you should also make a sample for that. In this conversation someone mentioned that the grey stain wouldn't hold it's colour on the long run but I'm not familiar enough to recommend to you which is the best, paint or stain.

I’m having a kitchen remodel, and my cabinet guy gave me samples of the natural cherry and how it mellows nicely over time. The darker board is after 5 years.
