Trane Thermostat 1050 - Very Strange Problem

last modified: 4 years ago

I have a 19 Seer Trane AC System with Clean Effects. The Thermostat Trane 1050 is for some strange reason dropping the Temperature Set Point setting, it just goes Blank, then after a while it comes back.

When the Set point does not show on the Thermostat display the system goes into "System Idle" mode.

Im not sure if the system is having a problem, going into System Idle and dropping the Set Point on the Thermostat or if its the Thermostat that id dropping the Set Point and because of that it is causing the system to go into Idle..

I had a spare Brand new Thermostat 1050 so replaced the original one with the New one but the same problem exists..So i don't think its the Thermostat that's the problem UNLESS it is the Latest Trane Firmware / Software Update that's causing it as not the original and new Thermostats have the Current version 5.9.6.

The Only Error I see is BLW COMM CRC which seems to be occurring every 40-50 mins. Maybe the system is having trouble talking to the Blower Motor but when you Test the Blower directly it works fine and why would a Blower Error drop the Set Point out of the Thermostat.

Air-handler Board has also been changed for a new one to rule that out.

Please Help.

Just put it out there, rip the band aid off straight away and let the chips fall where they may.

We'll find out if someone is having a "how dare you kind of day" LOL.

The thing is Trane dealers sit in classes how to sell these systems, but I would say the majority of the dealers do not know how to fix them when they break. Communicating systems with this type of error is right out the gate a PITA. Because you're forced to guess (if you do what they tell you to do doesn't work)

There is no money at the inn of AC hard luck to pay someone enough to deal with these kinds of problems. The money is in sell, sell, sell.

So if you're dealer (system servicer) can't figure this out you are stuck in a bad way.

How old is this system? Out of warranty period? Has the unit been maintained by Trane dealer? Extended warranty? --- if out of warranty cost of ownership is going to bite now.

I've put in communicating systems many years ago, of which were less problematic than some brands, Due to part cost and fanboyism of trane inparticular --- well you may already know this, but I let the other readers enjoy this story for what it is.

Here's some clues (that probably won't help) but I provide them because I am such a nice guy that tweets what appears to be mean tweets. LOL. (keeping it real, Established 1994 a long, long time ago in a land far, far, far away.)

Thank you but that doesnt really help me. Looks like we have correlated the Blower Motor Comm errors to coincide with the system going idle and set point disappearing. I think its the Blower Motor..
