Hi,

I'm leaning towards a railing on the right side only as the house is sort of in the way on the left.

I removed the plants that are in the shade close to the house. They were not flowering types and they trapped in a lot of leaves which were a pain to get out.

I'd love either something that blooms blue or purple or a hedge/shrub that I can shape.

A little portico on top of door would really add some oomph. Two pots with some height on stoop do thriller spiller and filler there, you could add two dwarf evergreens on side to frame it up. I think hydrangea’s under the window would be beautiful. The ferns and such are a bit boring. You have a lot of space for other smaller flowers in front of them. Some annuals would be nice or some creeping phlox. Could swap out the light fixture for something more modern.

Not nearly enough room on stoop/porch for potted containers without risking a trip hazard!! And it will make an already small entry porch feel even smaller. Leave any plants to inground planting in the existing beds.

Portico sounds interesting. I wonder how they’d do that given the asymmetry.

I’ve thought of adding a window box. The window only gets afternoon sun for 4-5 hours and it’s filtered through an oak tree.

I added 3 Pierris behind the fringe tree this week.

I do have some phlox growing there and doing well, but they’re not in pic.

I think the porch needs something tall and skinny next to it. Would a sky pencil work or anything similar.
The porch is kind of small and any pots will need to be narrow. GG might be right.

A Sky Pencil holly could work on the right side of the stoop but I don't think enough room for one on the left.

Yes, that’s what I thought.

Another option is Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire'. A bit denser and wider than the holly and with a great glossy, deep green textural character.

Limb up the fringe tree a wee bit (aren't they gorgeous when they bloom!) Consider lorapetalum or Spirea 'ogon'.

Here’s a better image of the area. Hostas, mock orange which keeps growing but never blooming and I added 2 pots to the stoop with foam flowers. Thanks for the suggestions.
