i would place a pale blue splash. it would complement the black and the light wood. I dont care for the classical flowery /bird patterns in this situation.

Wow. Before I comment on backsplash, I just have to say that I love your kitchen. It is just beautiful.

Is the backsplash just for the one wall behind the range? Not the window wall? I would do the bold floral. However, I would look at removeable wall paper at sites like Chasing Paper. Another option, if as you say, you are minimalists, is to do an analglypta paper and paint it the same colour as the other walls. Not a fan of more black and white like the other paper as it really reads grey and, to my eye, doesn't go with anything.

@daisychainZn3b : thanks for your input and compliments. The kitchen style came from a Houzz article as inspiration. Embossed wallpaper is an idea that I hadn’t considered- thank you. The Chasing Paper website is amazing: I would buy from them just because their website is so user-friendly!

Your kitchen is gorgeous. Consider leaving the wall as is or,

• 6" high backsplash made from the counter
• 6" - 8" high backsplash made from 2 rows of rectangular skinny tiles

I could see this, or the two ideas above, topped with a shelf from your cabinet wood.

I agree 100% with daisychain. I especially like removable options when going for a bold highlight so it can be changed in a couple years if I get tired of it.
