Backsplash ideas in a black/white kitchen

Hello Houzz! I am looking for comments on my proposed backsplash. My kitchen is black oak and natural maple with black/white quartz counters. Our style is modern/transitional, « less is more » type. The kitchen has alot of natural light from the south and west in eastern Ontario. Kitchen is painted in SW First Star. Backsplash space is 114 x 30’’. I am a very tidy cook so don’t have any concerns about keeping the area clean and the wallpapers are printed on scrubable paper. I also do not want a traditional small tile backsplash - no grout cleaning for me!

My backsplash options are

  1. bold floral wallpaper. It would be a big bold statement. I love it because I don’t have flowers anywhere else in the house. My daughter (picture rolling teenage eyes) says it is too 1980s!
  2. graphic black and white of birds. I like the whimsy of it. From the kitchen table, I think that it will look like a randomn pattern.
  3. a large porcelain veneer in an over-sized tile (40x98’’). It is gorgeous but costs $500 each tile. I am 16’’ short if I buy only one tile. I think that it will look odd to have a single tile centred on the wall but can’t bring myself (yet) to buy a second $500 tile for 16’’. And what to do about the seam?
