Good luck with that. They have massive roots And ime only transplant well when babies. They self sow all over my allotment and I just have to be ruthless about chucking them out.

floral, Do you have rust on your hollyhocks?...bad here.

I love Hollyhocks! I'd give up the tomatoes before the Hollyhocks. 😊

Thank you all so much for your responses. Floral, your hollyhocks are beautiful. Mine are about a year old now, and haven't bloomed yet. They are on one side of a connected garden bed, so I worry about both rust and too much shadowing. Do you think that 1 year old hollyhocks are too big to transplant? I'm tempted to just leave them if they are not a threat in either way and transplant any new baby plants. I'd hate to lose them. The tomatoes will have to find a new spot in that case.

Lori, I just have a few scattered hollyhocks. I let some live and bloom.

My biggest one is about 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide. The others are about half that size or smaller. I'm planning on trying to transplant at least the smaller ones after they have been soaking for about a day and be really careful about not getting near the taproot. It seemed like a good idea when I planted them. I've never had hollyhocks get very big where I planted them before in another flower bed. Thanks for your advice.
