Gardengal48: thanks. Yes I know that (I have about 20 clematis). But in all those cases I have a trellis, or twine attached to a nail atop a fence or on a tree or chicken wire wrapped around a tree or down spout. So the question is what to attach the twine to in this case? I could wrap chicken wire around the pedestal but not sure it will be aesthetically pleasing.

By the way I just can’t with the Houzz Garden Web. Tried to post this on the clematis forum and I couldn’t. Sigh.

If you want the clematis to climb the urn, you will have to figure out some form of attachment for the support system.

Alternatively, you could plant the clematis in the urn and let it cascade over the side.

Tie fishing line around the base of the pedestal and wrap it up and around spirally.

Fishing line is next to invisible, will be covered up in no time anyway, and it's easy to cut it away foliage and all when pruning time rolls around. I have potted clematis vining up 4x4 posts wrapped with fishing line and they climb it just fine.
