Squirrels don't touch my asparagus and I have hundreds of them running around on my wooded property. I don't have any chippies here so can't answer that.

I've got grey and red squirrels and chipmunks and none of them has ever bothered with the asparagus at all. I've also got rabbits that visit the yard regularly and they don't touch it, but then the yard is full of clover and other things they like :)

Woodchucks will nibble. I've heard squirrels usually tend to prefer the more mature ferns rather than the spear tips. Asparagus beetle damage can sometimes look like something is nibbling the tips.

Fudge, that is what I thought. The rabbit has found a new way in, I patched the old way.
