If you want exceptional try Stonegate in Lincoln. You will see lots of stuff you've never seen before, and prices that bring new meaning to the word exceptional. Nonetheless, well worth an outing.

Russells has one of the better selections of natives around; we're striving for >80% native species in our yard, only halfway there so far, but have already seen a dramatic improvement in both numbers of species and nesting success.

Probably another 40-50 native shrubs going in this spring (the Mom of the household gets hole digging for her Mother's Day gift every year), Just did a major clearing of bittersweet, multiflora rose, burning bush, and oriental honeysuckle, opening up a big area on our forest edge.

PM2, sounds like fun! thanks for that other thread. VV and NHBabs give great ideas. I have had the pleasure to visit NHBabs gardens and they are gorgeous. All great shrbs on both lists. You know how partial i am to viburnums. I have some planted in the back near the oakline, so quite dry and shady and they do well.

I love Viburnums too. I've had about 6 different kinds and I only have one left. They just haven't done well for me. I am planning on adding a couple of carlesii's even if they did not last for me, because I just LOVE that fragrance in the spring.

rwiegand - I have been to Stonegate, I haven't been for awhile. I guess it's time for another visit. Russell's is where I usually end up buying.

I love the sound of your garden projects. I'd like to hear more specifics of the natives you are adding that you see are providing attraction. Photos would be lovely.

Digging holes are a really big blessing for any gardener! lol I got a gift of cutting down large branches that needed to come off my Maple this year, not ready for new digging yet. [g] I'm sure the Mom of the household is very grateful!

PM2, I havent been to Lake Street in quite a long time. Might need to stop in on way back from the plant sale on Saturday!

Alas, I'm missing plant sales this year but good news is I'm going on a special trip. NH Dollar Saver has recently run a Lake Street deal for a coupon. I've done it in past years. If I recall correctly you pay for deal and receive voucher in mail. Extension is advising plants for swaps and local plant sales be bare root because of invasive Asian Jumping worms which are already in our town.

When you mention Sylvan are you referring to Sylvan Nursery in Westport? I have always found them to have a remarkable inventory if you know what you want. They are primarily a commercial nursery but have retail days/hours. When I have gone they have either pointed me in the direction of what I was looking for or given me a map. You are free to wander and select exactly what you want.
