Mounted on wall looks nicer

If you can hide the cords, mount it on the wall. A tv is easy to mount...try to set it on the stand first, and mount it if you don't like how it looks.

For a TV in basement family/kids room, I suggest mounting both the TV and the console like this to keep the TV stand light and airy and not massive looking, but still hide the cords and equipment.

Wall mounted and make sure the console is not too high. I like the TV to be mounterd so that the middle of the screen is at eye level when you are seated. A 65" will need a very wide console I suggest you check out Besta from Ikea it is a great choice for some storage too.

To hide the cable box and power cords, put the electrical outlet on the wall so it is behind the TV. Use 2-sided Velcro tape to stick the cable box to the back of the TV if it can still get the signal from the remote control.

I feel like the wall is a better way to hang. If the tv looks too large for the console when its sitting on it, it will still look loo large when its hung. You may need a larger console.

- It's safer -- no one, especially rowdy kids, can knock over the expensive TV.

- With the TV up on the wall, it'll be easier for you to dust the console. Why not make things as easy as possible to clean?

Do you already have the stand? We have a similar situation for our video gaming area in our basement and use a stand where you mount the TV on the stand so it can swivel/etc. Got it from Costco.

We also have a 65” TV. Not the best pic but you get the idea. You probably can’t tell but there are 5 game systems on the shelves!

@seosmp we have a 48 inch wide stand at thr moment from a previous tv. we will need to find something wider since 65” tvs are about 58” wide

Our 65 inch TV is wall mounted on a swing mount within the wall, but you can do something on an external mount too. The bottom piece is a sound bar and all the gaming units are inside the console.

Wall mounting the TV might be safer for the kids, however you could also put the TV on an articulating arm so they can pull if off the wall and be able to be in other places of the room.

Thanks for the comments i ended up mounting it on a wall. Here is a current picture. I’m still finihing up the basement and I will liekly get a wider console for below the TV. The proportions of the TV and console look worse in this picture than they do in person. i may just leave it for now.

I had an outlet installed behind the tv, and ran the other wires through the wall

“The proportions of the tv and console look worse in this picture than they do in person” yes, that is a reason why Pros recommend you take a picture of your space so you can better see the room’s flaws.

The console should be about 25% wider than the TV.
