Downsizing Vanity - Plumbing Issue?

Hi guys - first time homeowner here! We’re hoping to replace the existing 79in vanity in the master bath. I found a 60in vanity that I love, but will that require moving plumbing? Hoping to make it as easy of an update as possible and not get into plumbing changes. Pictures of both vanities attached.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

If your new vanity is higher than your old one, you would just need new water lines, and possibly new drain pipe for the extra height.

I would be more concerned about damage to the walls (sheetrock) going from a built in vanity to a free standing one.

You may not necessarily have to "move" plumbing, but you will definitely need to hire a plumber as your old drains will not line up with new drain needs. You will most likely also need drywall repair - and, check to make sure existing flooring goes under the vanity, or you will have to patch/replace floors.

Painting the cabinet black with new pulls could get you closer to your desired look…

The tower should go as well….

Does your floor extend under your current vanity? If not you are taking on a huge project.

I agree with keeping your current large vanity and simply paint it and replace the hardware. If you don't like the top then spend the $$$ to replace it but really I would NEVER give up 19 inches of vanity space!!!

I don't like the existing placement of the tower, but it does hold a lot of stuff. Maybe consider mirrored medicine cabinets instead of just mirrors.

The plumbing is easily moved; even for a beginning DIYer.

Joseph is right, put away the fainting couches people. You do have to make sure that the tile runs under the vanity, many times it doesnt. That could be the big snag in your plan. Sure you will have some repair to do but instead of dealing with something you dont want, you can enjoy what you do. Dont let randos scare you into settling, but do your research first, understand the scope and then make your decision. You may find that altering what you have now can work better for you. Random people have random opinions. Good luck.

The plumbing is easy to do but I have no idea why you would want a smaller vanity but I agree to remove the center pice and the lighting needs to replaced with LED 4000K but I sure would not downsize and if that center piece is actully sitting on the counter then new stainless handles and new recessed medicine cabinets and lighting will be huge improvement and no issue with plumbing.

I would not personally downsize to a 60 inch vanity. Too much loss of counterspace. I like the vanity you have now, minus the tower with medicine cabinets.

If you really want a stand alone vanity, look for a 72 inch vanity. Room and board has some nice looking ones and come with countertops too. They also have a charcol version to what you have pictured.

Thanks for your answers, everyone! We decided to hold off on ordering that vanity until we close on the house (Tuesday). It was on sale for a great price so I was hoping to act fast, but hearing all of the potential possibilities with it being a built-in vanity made us decide to wait until we can have our contractor take a look!

There's tons of storage in the rest of the bathroom and it's a bit of a tight squeeze between the vanity edge and the shower (as you can see in the attached screenshots), hence the hope to downsize. Definitely planning to get rid of the tower!

Thanks again for all of the input - I'm totally new to this homeownership thing so love all of this advice! 😊
