That depends on the house and style

I think the better approach would depend on the room style and deciding on what best suit them. You can go with the same color on wall & ceiling as well. Adopt monochromatic scheme, and use a lighter tone of the wall color paint the ceiling as it will maintain the height.

I have looked into this and if you have cathedral ceilings the so called "experts" say it's fine to use the one colour due to the reflective light on cathedral ceilings.
If you have flat ceilings its better to use a flat white/light coloured paint.

I used 50 percent of the wall color on the ceiling of a great room with cathedral ceiling. This gave the illusion of being the same color, but brought lightness to the room. I used the same 50 percent on the north facing walls,interior halls and other spaces that didn't receive direct sunlight. This trick works great!
