We literally went from rain soaked cool days in April right into the humid hot 90's on Mother's Day. This is actually more normal here then the previous two years which stayed cooler until the first of June........ One of my northern daylily vendors called today to say they apparently didn't have two of the daylilies I ordered (Holly Dancer and Vanilla Fluff), which instead of being upsetting was a relief to me because it's just too hot to do more bare root daylilies............I'm enjoying your roses especially those bargain basement ones. They are blooming to beat the band. I never grew Knock Out roses either as I was more into Hybrid Teas and their ilk, but I must say that the yellow KO is a cutie. Yellow roses by lineage are prime blackspot offenders so how does the yellow KO do for you?...Everything else looks great Kate, with so much more to come in the daylily world for both of us....................Maryl

Maryl, I know what you mean about the heat. We are way over normal temps with records set yesterday and today. I must say the KO yellow has been a surprise last year and so far this year with little blackspot. The yellow Kordes is also great with no blackspot now.

Love those $1 roses! I will have to enjoy yours, no roses here with my small dogs wandering the yard. Thorns are at eye height.

It looks like you have lots of daylilies beginning to bloom. Your roses are lovely. Like Sherry, I don't have any roses either. I wish I could grow them here, but Black Spot is too much of a problem.

The heat has come on here too. It was 92 yesterday. Last week we turned the heat back on and now we have the air on. So much for spring.

Nancy, your flowers are lovely! That $1 rose is really special! What a bargain that was! We have a few old rose beginning to bloom. I love the garden shot too.

We have been looking here, but there's not a scape in sight except for H. minor and dumortieri.

i can't believe you are already in the 90's. I hate weather that is that hot. I couldn't bear to live any further south than I am.

The dianthus is such a pretty flower. I have a small clump. Most of mine died out.

Wow, 90's already would be too much for me this soon. Nice group of pics Kate. I'm sure with that heat your blooms will be coming quicker. I did have a couple of roses in NY but the I don't have a green thumb growing them. I haven't gotten any for here but your gorgeous pics are tempting me. Rain is suppose to come tomorrow, Saturday,Sunday and Monday. We are staying in the 70's to low 80's mostly now.

Is the yellow Kordes Jubilee?

Kate: I was at Ace today trying to find some fill in annuals and I saw an orange rose that looked like your yellow one. It drew me to it. It was Oso Easy Paprika and was just full of blooms. I'm familiar with this rose and its disease resistance and was sorely tempted. Alas it was not on the $1.00 table. Hooray! The blooms are starting. The roses are gorgeous and a bargain is even better! I especially love the soft yellow old garden rose1 Does it have a lovely scent? Sunday River is my favorite of the lilies, but I like the brightness of Riot on the Kindergarten Bus.

Maryl, I like that color on that rose! Years ago I bought Westerland, a climbing orange because of the color. What a dud it was for me. Just a wimpy plant that rarely blooms.

Debra, I understand about the black spot-luckily these Kordes are almost blackspot free all summer!!

Brad, I love my dianthus. They actually bloom all summer and into the fall.

Julia, I am not a spokesperson for Kordes roses:) But I do highly recommed them. They have been the most carefree, disease free roses I have ever grown!!

Mantis, I am not sure about the name of the yellow Kordes-I was sure I had a marker beside it but looked today and it was not there. But it could posdibly be Jubilee or Tupelo Honey or Lone Star-I looked at all of those to see if one looked like mine. The blooms are huge and are single blooms rather than the clusters like Summer Romance.
