I’ve actually never had ventilation in a closet before. Is this something they do in new homes or something? I’ve owned 3 houses built in the 70s and 80s and none have had a vent in the master closet or any closet.

I often see closets without any HVAC--particularly when the walls defining the closet are all interior walls. While those spaces may need little if any heating or cooling, they generally benefit from ventilation to help prevent mold and mildew. Tapping into the HVAC supply for Master Bathroom could affect comfort and relative humidity. I suggest installing a new supply tapping into the main supply trunk to supply air to the closet. Make sure the door bottom has sufficient open area to allow for return air flow. Another option is to install a small through-wall fan to ensure adequate air flow,

Thanks for the info, I do have some concern for mold and mildew, the temp swings are quite drastic in the closet. The closet has two outside walls (to the exterior of the house) so it does get quite warm in the summer and cold in the winter if we keep the door shut. The closet has a newly installed door with plenty of space for air flow under currently. I appreciate the insight - Seems like the through wall fan may be an option.

I guess it depends on location as well, in Florida the newer homes all have HVAC in the larger closets - one of my colleagues lived in an older home without ventilation - several of his shoes (and leather bags etc.) developed mold on them due to the heat and humidity. In Virginia now and don't see them as often, but with the walls on the exterior of the house the temp fluctuations are a concern for damaging clothing and other items.

Have you considered just installing an exhaust fan?
