possible banquette option

Remodeling and saw some with banquette. With my layout does anyone think it’s a good idea?

I happen to like banquettes, but others will say they hate them since someone is always trapped on the inside seats. If you have young kids they work--maybe not for teens or adult guests. I think they're charming, and your windows seem a perfect spot for a banquette. :)

I am so happy someone agrees with me. I think it saves space. I have seen where the table not necessarily this one is used. The bench could go a large portion of wall

You can save a couple of feet of floor space and add storage, too. (Search this site for 'morgue drawers'--which would work well with an L shape if the bench is open on the end of each leg.)

ETA, it looks as if you already have a trestle table, which is commonly used with bench seating.

I like them, too. I find them cozy (and great for extra storage).

If you haven’t already, search ’bay window banquette’ for lots of ideas.

I did a quick search, didn’t see one exactly like your room, but wanted to share this one. So pretty. :)

If you don’t mind me asking about how much did it cost ?

I have think it would have to be custom made. Just wondering approximately how expensive they run. Does anyone have experience with having one built

Sorry, no, I don’t. Hopefully someone will know, although different locations could be vastly different in prices.

I don’t like banquettes. It means there is at least 1 person and likely 2 people uncomfortably squeezed in. And if they have to get out, then those sitting next to them have to slide out and get up also. It is not relaxing or easy to eat at a banquette. A big No Way for me.

My experience with banquettes is that we linger. We eat, drink, chat, and sit awhile. Kind of like at a restaurant.

I guess it depends on how people use them. I can’t think of any where we’ve all been squeezed in uncomfortably. But I understand why they’re not everyone’s thing. I wouldn’t want to be in one with total strangers for a more formal-type meal.

For sure universally disliked here ... even though one frequent anti-banquette poster admitted to never having sat on one. ;)

The table is so small on the one example that @jink posted, in comparison to the amount of seating. I thought about doing a banquet in my rather smallish kitchen, but I didn't like the reduced size of the table and the limited amount of chairs I could fit around the table compared to the oval table that I have now, which can accommodate 8+ diners in a pinch. I think banquets are often super cute.

I have a large table with nice sized area. The table would be movable so not sure if comments nixing banquette would apply here. I thought it would make better use of place and add design to kitchen. However bc the area does not fit premade models available it would have to be custom fit and would probably be costly.
I remember many years in Europe where the family would all get together and it brought happy memories.
I may have to give up idea. Unfortunately

I like banquettes, however, I wouldnt like glass windows that low behind them. I think a table like y ou have is better for your room.

Agreed--I'm contemplating putting a banquette back in our kitchen (there was one when the house was first built). But our windows are 33" off the ground, and even that is a tight fit for a comfortable back--yours look much lower than that. If you want to try it, I'd consider a furniture-style banquette instead of something built in.
