Thank you. I actually did go out and ask the general contractor about it and he assured me it would be ok. I’m concerned and will discuss it with him again in the morning. I was hoping to get opinions of some people “in the know” before I approach him again. I have to admit that I’m a bit unnerved by it.

Better tear it out now.

An update just four days later. A couple of days ago, our contractor said it would be fine. I hope he will now agree that it needs to be replaced….despite the fact that he has now put rails and columns up. I sure hate it and was hoping it would be ok.

Send via certified a memo stating everything you overheard and you said the day of the pour. Just to start getting your ducks in a row for what's coming. Regardless of the mix (but in part because of), the installation does not appear to be in a "professional workmanlike manner" equivalent to what is common for the trade.

I know we are looking at close ups and not general views but this is probably the worst-looking concrete I have ever seen. And I am not a person who pronounces anything and everything I don't like "the worst".

It looks like it might need to be torn out. It doesn't look like a professional job and that it may not hold up.

Update: Thankfully they jackhammered the concrete on Monday and re-poured this morning using a different concrete supplier. Everything seemed to go well and we are periodically misting it to protect it from the heat. I appreciate all of your feedback. I’ll be glad when this is all behind us.

The initial setting of cement doesn't depend on the final strength of concrete. Be sure your floor strength is good enough, but finishing may differ.
