lighting over island!

Hello we r in the middle
Of renovating and I wanted to add lights over
My 10ft island… the ceiling is 8ft high! Maybe linear pendant? But I don’t want to focus too much on the light since
The kitchen is
Black. Any help would be great!

IMO that lighting is what needs to be the focal poingt and for sure something that lights the island no the ceiling Make sure all those pot lights are LEDs 4000K too not just the island lighting. Just out of curiosity what is the measurement of the walkways that one in front of the fridge looks small to me for sure.

We are in the middle of getting rid of almost half of them… the new ones are led and very pretty… I just can’t decided on a pendant!

Pretty or functional IMO 4000K is the only bulb ina kitchen and in a black kitchen the more the better .since black sucks light like crazy. I still need more info as to your stlye

I strongly disagree that you need a 4000k bulb. I almost exclusively use 3000k. If you have a good lighting plan and the can lights are placed where they should be to provide even general lighting, you do not need a cooler or brighter bulb to compensate.

Yes the guys said we will have plenty of light! 4 inch led.. they are just telling me I need to pick something over the island and I can’t figure out what to put!

Why don't you first hang a mock light fixture...cardboard/ etc...and see how much it cuts a kitchen in half with a low ceiling. It will give you a good idea of what shape and size works, if any.

I think in order to suggest anything for you we need to see more of your space and understand the style you are wanting. Also a budget for the fixture would be helpful too. I think you are on the right track that more linear might be the way to go.

I would spend up to $6000

bring in something that complements the black/gold.

I don't think this style really suits your kitchen

do you like any of these?

I love both of these w/the gold chains. they come in all colors.

number of pendants depends on the size of the light.

pick out what you like first, and then determine if you need 2 or 3.

I gave you a guide, above. here's another

those globe lights come in diff sizes and diff shapes

here's the one in the pic above

    https://www.shadesoflight.com/products/iconic-classic-globe-pendant-medium

the large is a 22 X 16". you could prob do 2 of these. (blow up balloons in similar sizes to try out)

    small is a 12" X 8.5" with that one you'd need 3.

you could also try something like this

Hood light comes in diff globe styles and colors

    https://www.rejuvenation.com/catalog/products/hood

you could get the gold instead of the black, clear glass if you prefer

    these are 13" X 14"

I wanted to get these for my kitchen, but my island was too narrow.

    I ended up w/these, which are 12"

Thank you so much for all of this!!! So so helpful!!! I love that u were able to show me the lights in my kitchen! What do u think about a linear light? Would that look nice in my space?

modern linear?? this type of look?

I'd say no, but I'd have to see it.

go for more of a transitional light.

There is a lot of good info here, but I would say scale smaller as to not stuff up the space, and allow for longer hanging cord, because you look to have a large window I wouldn't want to muck up that view. I agree with 3000k being the most "white" i would go, i cant stand 4k blue light. This is a warm kitchen and the lighting needs to reflect that.

I am also thinking linear could be the answer, as you first thought.

Very nice but I think a bit too modern for my space
