I have a question about a limelight tree we had put in last year in May. The landscapers added all of our foundation plantings at once. They dug out the existing soil and added top soil only. Since then we have had various problems with plants being too water logged, root rot, etc.
This limelight tree looked exactly like the photos below within a few weeks of planting last May and this spring it leafed out beautifully but now the leaves are slowly yellowing and looking mottled. (the photos are from today) They eventually turn brown and fall off.
I was told this is chlorosis, lack of iron and that I should add chelated iron to the soil. Could it also be a nutrient deficiency? No other amendments have been added since planting, and I have only fertilized once this spring. We’re also suspecting it may be water logged from the poor draining souls that landscapers put in. It gets plenty of sun, 6+ hours. I have other hydrangeas near my garden that are fine. Can anyone offer an opinion on diagnosis?
If we do discover that it is sitting in water, is it too late in the season to dig it up, add permatill and raise it so it drains better?
