Talk to your builder.

We will, but our builder has not been responsive or honest.

I doubt they will care or be diligent about making sure there is not a serious underlying problem.

hopefully, there is not a serious underlying problem, but how can we be sure? What questions should we ask? should we demand an evaluation by a foundation expert?

Take a lot of pictures and make all correspondences in writing.

Point it and wait. I doubt it's a serious foundation problem.

Does the crack radiate up from the ground? If so you should get it independently checked out.

It’s actually from the roof downward. That’s our roof in the upper right corner of the photo.

In order for that crack to happen, something had to shift a fair amount. It may be within the realm of normal settling and requires cosmetic repairs - or something more.

Are there any cracks in the drywall on the interior?

Typically new residential brick veneer construction has a structural wall made of lumber with an air gap - and then brick. The brick is supported on a ledge on the foundation.

If there is problem with the entire foundation, you will probably see cracks inside as well. The brick is not structural, it's just cosmetic.

One other possibility (new construction) is that they didn't use rigid sheeting on the outside and this is a crack from racking - usually from a strong wind. Some builders are using an exterior sheeting that doesn't provide the same amount of stiffness that OSB or plywood does. The wood structure flexes - but brick veneer does not flex at all - and so it cracks.

The problem is that even though the exterior veneer isn't structural, it's a new house AND future buyers will look at that and suspect a foundation problem, even if it's been repaired.
