Lemon Grass propagation

For those that are interested in growing lemon grass (Cymbopogon), used in Thai cuisine, just so you know, you can EASILY start them from the lemon grass clumps that are usually sold in Asian markets. I just put them in a vase with a big of water (not too much, like 1/4 inch maintained), and they will root, then put them in sandy soil. Much bigger and CHEAPER than from any nursery.

Honestly, I don't really use the lemon grass so much, I just enjoy growing plants that have some culinary/cultural/medicinal/mythological association. I know it's used a lot in Thai cuisine, which I do love but have to enjoy in restaurants. The herbs that I grow that I DO in fact regularly use are rosemary, mint, oregano, sage, thyme, ginger, cardamon, turmeric, bay, and basil. I also grow lavender and curry leaf plant, but those I don't use in the kitchen. I would say as far as cooking goes, we like the rosemary, thyme, and basil best.

P.S., I am looking at my stalks or lemon grass and they are now fully rooted in a vase after less than two weeks. Just use about a 1/4 inch of water in the vase or you can rot them.
