Cornerstones would be easy to add. They would be squares cut the same size as the width of the sashing. The sashing pieces would need to be the same length as your charm squares.

I don't think it would be that difficult but that being said, I've never done them diagonally or otherwise. By the time I get to sashing I'm usually bored with the project and don't want to take the extra time to do them. It will be lovely either way.

Personally, I don’t think it needs cornerstones. but having said that, it should be fairly easy to add them. Donna has given good directions.

I don‘t find it any harder to put cornerstones in on the diagonal. That bring said, I agree with Theresa that you really don’t need them. With blocks only 5” square, I don’t think cornerstones would add to the quilt. And if time is short and you don’t want to get bogged down, I’d skip them. I like the pattern just as it is.
