Need help with poor window install

Replacement of 3 windows. Brick to brick. Installer removed our originals and put in the new windows. Then said the person who ordered them measured wrong and they needed to add jamb extensions. It looks horribly unprofessional. I called the owner and told him I was not happy. The installers were working until after 10pm when I asked them to leave because it was too late and I was not happy. I don't know where to begin with how to resolve this with the owner.

Send your pictures to the owners and ask to meet them onsite. Stay calm and respectful and see what they recommend. Fingers crossed they'll make it good. But first you have to ask. And be polite.

The jamb extensions being two piece is silly. If they order the wrong wall depth, you just rip off the ones that are attached, build you boxes, and set the windows.

Not sure why the condition of the windows is so poor. Simonton usually make a decent deliverable product. It's not a high performance unit when compared to the other vinyl options, but it is usually a dependably deliverable product. That looks like abuse after the fact.

Ok Thank you. I appreciate your comment. When you say abuse after the fact what do you mean by that?

Looks like sloppy manufacturing, not so much the installer as far as the “actual window” is concerned. Also, when you take close up pictures like you did, very minor imperfections can appear exaggerated and much worse than they actually are.

I agree with the others that this is not a good look on any level-- at least not based on the pics provided. The windows look old and dirty and the jamb extension should be one piece, or at least a better job than that. I've seen two piece jambs assembled with a step where one would never know that it didn't come that way from the factory.

What does the exterior look like?

By the way...how was this contractors quote compared to others? Or did you get others?

Quotes were around the same. I had used this window company before for an egress window that was really well done with a high quality steel window and retrofit of 2 basement windows with vinyl sliders in the original metal frame. So I was surprised that this install was done poorly. From the outside the windows appear well done. The carpentry work on the inside is poor due to the fact that the window was ordered with the wrong jamb size and the installers tried to add jamb extensions. I agree with you that they should have realized the jamb was not the right size and built a new jamb to insert the window into. The owner said his last installer was very good at jamb extensions and you could barely tell there was a seam. These new installers just did not do it well enough. I met with the owner and he is having an installer come and remove the jamb extensions and trim and redo the whole thing. Fingers crossed it works out ok.
