Hi. Do you have a bottom freezer at present? Just incase you don’t have one already…We stayed a few weeks in a home with one…long enough for me to decide I didn’t like them. The freezer kept beeping at us because it didn’t close easily. I guess we would have adjusted in the end if we’d bought one, but glad we didn’t get it.

I have had 2 of this configuration, a kenmore elite with water inside and ice maker in bottom freezer, lasted about 20 years and was replaced Feb 2020 with a GE with ice and water in door. so not sure of reliability of it yet. The space for my fridge, a french door looks better and we do need the space for family gatherings. I prefer this style fridge but YMMV.

When we built our home we bought all Kitchen Aid appliances and have a French Door full size with internal water dispenser and bottom drawer freezer. I absolutely love it. It is 7 years old., no issues whatsoever.

We had a Bosch fridge configured tghis way in our previous house. Never had any problems with it other than the fact that the water filters for it were ridiculously overpriced, We were in the Bay Area, with great water, so didn’t really need that anyway.

We've had our Bosch B36CT80SNS for about two months and are very happy. Water inside the fridge; icemaker in freezer. French door, counter depth. Previous unit was a brand with constant icemaker problems (in-door water and ice). We've had bottom freezers for 25 years.

I forgot to mention that I will need a quieter model. I see some reviews that the Cafe and GE French door refrigerators are very loud? Any suggestions on the quietest brand for these refrigerators?

Thank you all for all the suggestions. I will definitely look into these products. I am encouraged to know that there are not as many issues with the ice makers in the freezer portion of these refrigerators.

I really need a full size refrigerator and some of the ones I find that have this configuration are only available in counter depth.

I am aware that the Bosch has the quietest dishwashers. Are the Bosch Refrigerators just as quiet?

I also really like the newer refrigerators that do not have handles.

I really like the design of the Samsung Bespoke 3 and 4 door French Door ref with the beverage center in the door and the larger ice maker that produces 2 different sizes of ice in the freezer drawer. Has anyone had any experience with these particular models?

I can definitely NOT recommend KitchenAid refrigerators... Specifically model KRMF706EFF. Full size fridge with an outstanding layout/interior .. love the two extra fridge drawers .. and bottom freezer with French door fridge.

Hated the idea of the fridge mounted water/ice dispenser but my wife loved the fridge otherwise so be it. Within 6 months we started having electrical issues.. wiring harness was replaced under warranty... twice. Then.. the Icemaker failed (out of warranty) and started having issues with the ice freezing up and then melting. Decided to shut down the icemaker (via internal switch). Shortly thereafter... we started having problems with one of the refer drawers getting stuck. Turns out there was water collecting on the drip tray below the drawer that was freezing and impeding the drawer opening and closing.

Called Kitchenaid for out of warranty service and got the news that an appointment would be 2+ months out. I ended up shutting off the water supply to the fridge and I'm hoping the water/ice will cease.

Not pleased with this $4000 POS.

Be sure to check thespec sheet before considering the Bosch B36CT80SNS. It's cabinet depth (24" deep without doors) but 28-5/8" deep with doors and without handles; and 30-29/32" with handles. CR tested it but it did not earn a "recommended" rating though HD owners like it.

Remember that GE often sells nearly the same refrigerator under its many brands: GE, Profile, Cafe, and Monogram. Compare carefully; you can pay a lot for a different badge and handles on the door.

We have a KA with these options. We decided not to hook the water up as we have read of so many leakage problems with plumbed refrigerators and had just gone through a whole house restoration due to fire and water damage, so I can't give a review about those features. In general, it has been a great fridge.

Remember that Whirlpool Corp. has many brands and you can often find nearly the same refrigerator under several of them (US: Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Jenn-Air) at different prices.

The freezer will soon end up as the ”bottomless pit” with random peas and maybe a ravioli. We had a samsung, and I know many other brands had/have a drainage problem which causes water to pool under the freezer. The water freezes under the freezer, preventing it from closing properly until you defrost it and unclog the drain. Take the time to read complaints or reviews, dont assume it wont happen to you. The design stinks because food will have the tendency to get buried, and theres not a lot of room for a large family. A second freezer in the garage may be an idea. A side by side (we went full circle and ended up going back to the original style fridge after replacing it w an armoire fridge) is something you may still be able to do while your planning your kitchen. Everybodys taste is different tho, good luck and do research.

@wsurrette, the water pooling is the result (90% of the time) to clogged drains. I had to periodically pull the fridge out and clean the drains. When they are plugged, water goes under the pull outs in the refrigerator and under the freezer and freezes, preventing the proper closing of the drawers. You tube has a bunch if videos to get you through until the service people show up. You will have to chisel the ice from where its freezing (super carefully) eventually, the frozen water makes it to the fan and you will notice a much louder fridge when it cools. The only real remedy is replacement

I have the Bosch and like it a lot. It's a litle of 1.5 years old now.

I'm glad to see some positive comments about the Bosch. We're looking to replace our fridge and that's what we've been leaning towards. Does anyone here have the Bosch without handles? I like the look of it, but noticed it's $100 more. Although at that price, I guess another $100 is not that big of a deal. Also, do Bosch appliances ever go on sale? I'm thinking specifically about possible 4th of July sales.

Thank you everyone. Is the Samsung refrigerator that I posted above just not a good choice? I can’s seem to find many reviews on it. I’m not sure if they have corrected their ice maker issues or were the issues just for the refrigerators that had the water dispenser and ice maker in the refrigerator door. I had two side by side Samsung refrigerators and had no issues with them, but not sure about the French door models with ice maker in the freezer department and no water dispenser in the door.

I can’t seem to find a Bosch that has a French door in counter depth that has the ice maker in the freezer.

I do not want a water dispenser or ice dispenser on the outside of the refrigerator. Am I over looking the Bosch model that is designed like this in a STANDARD depth?

Another thought for Kitchen Aid, we were looking at our local retailers at French Door refrigerators and they had several running. I was looking at the The Kitchen Aid model that has the water and ice maker dispenser in the door. When I went to open the freezer door… it was frozen over and you could barely pull the freezer out. It was a mess.

That definitely changed my mind on the “water dispenser/ ice maker on the outside of the fridge in the refrigerator door.

@M riz we’re the issues you had with the models with the water/ice maker in the door…. Or is the drainage problems with both designs (water dispenser in the door and ice maker in the freezer?

We will have another freezer in the home. But what’s the use of having a refrigerator if it doesn’t function? Or pay the
$$$ for water dispensers and ice makers only to have to disconnect those features?

If a French Door is the style that I need… Why not just buy a French door without a water dispenser or an ice maker and just purchase an ice maker by itself? Do they even make one without ice makers and water dispenser?

We bought this one like 6 months ago so I can't talk about longevity. It is our first french door and seemed to have the best reviews out of most. So far it's working good and we haven't had issues. It does have a water dispenser in the door which I know you said you didn't want. But it doesn't take up much room and there is a normal door shelf there. The ice is in the bottom freezer drawer and can be switched off if needed.

With regards to the Bosch, I just looked on the Appliance Connections site, filtering for Bosch, and the only non counter-depth refrigerator I found (French Door) had ice/water in the door. They have several choices for counter depth (which is what I'm looking for), but not standard.

This model has 2 evaporators and is one of the nicest freestanding French Door models I’ve seen in the Freestanding category/price point.

These are our criteria too (in addition to counter depth) and we narrowed it down to to Bosch, Kitchen Aid, and Fisher Paykel. It was surprisingly tough to find one without ice/water in the door but that was a dealbreaker for us. Fisher Paykel has no ice maker at all; the other two have it in the freezer. (Our space is not plumbed and we may not add a water line, so wanted the option of no ice maker at all.)

If anyone is still reading this thread foe suggestions...
