Thanks Chris, actually I just posted my question about my hanging basket on the container forum because I couldn't find a hanging basket section. I searched for over an hour. I think there should be a forum for hanging baskets. Just my thoughts!

Hanging baskets are just a type of container. There are already too many forums imo, many of which get virtually no traffic. Annuals, Containers and the forum for your location should get you the information you need. Not Design Dilemmas, that’s not one of the gardening forums.

most hanger plants are annuals.. so this is the perfect spot..

so instead of talking about where.. why dont we get to your actual questions..

And you'd be guessing wrong :-) Bonsai, houseplants, tender tropicals, veggies, collectors and a whole lot of other folks that just like to plant up seasonal containers to accent porches, decks and patios. As floral mentioned, hanging baskets are just another type of container.

btw, the OP is not exactly new to the forums......been here a couple of years at least.

Garden Mist, beautiful plants, in a variety of sizes! Sadly, Exotic Angel (now Costa Farms) plants aren't even grouped by hanging anymore. I don't want a separate forum for hanging pots, but hope they aren't becoming a thing of the past.

It can be difficult to provide the steady, consistent conditions that plants prefer if a pot is hanging in the sun. Although plenty of plants do love to be in the sun all day, they might not like their roots being as hot as they get in a pot that the sun is shining on.

The extra half inch of water that some the pots hold makes some plants ill. When you buy a hanging pot, check where the drain hole is on the bottom. If it's a half inch above the bottom of the pot, that's going to hold a lot of water and roots will be in water that can't drain out. I use a hedge pruner to snip a hole in the real bottom of those pots.

Thank you so much. I appreciate your tips on the hanging baskets. Hmmm I never thought about maybe punching another hole at the bottom of my baskets. Next year, I may go back to planting in the sphagnum moss hanging baskets. I have never had any problems with them except when watering and all the dirt came out and a big mess to clean up on my deck. lol

Happy to suggest! For something that poses a risk of dirt washing out, you can line with landscape fabric or window screen. Both are available in rolls inexpensively. I use both of these to turn non-pot items into pots, like wire baskets. A moss or coir pot won't get as hot as a dark color plastic when the sun hits it. Excellent idea.
