It would help to know how the corner relates to the rest of the room. Can you show us a photo from further back?

My immediate thought was that the solution to darkness is to add light. Is there electricity on that wall? Does it make sense to add table lamps (you could put them on a timer to brighten up the corner on schedule).

I would like to buy size and design appropriate decorations. Please give me some ideas. These pieces are just what I have on hand. 

I have ceiling lights in this area which I will upgrade to brighter fixtures sometime soon. 

This area is hallway between the formal living room and kitchen. The stairs are next to it. 

The shoe storages are slim about 8 inches wide. Table lamps are not an option unless I can find something tall and slim.

One lamp for the taller part of the wall, balance with art.

I'd put a tall piece of art on the tall wall with a picture light (battery or plug-in style) and a short lamp on the right. They can be used together or separately, depending on the time of day and whether you need an accent for true ambient light. Then put a low blown glass bowl in the center that picks up some colors from the art.

Is this an entry way?

first thing I'd do is find a new wall color.

Second, the wall decor/art is all wrong. too small.

notice this one. dark console, but, wall color compliments it, the art is properly sized, there are two light sources, a light rug, and nice console decor items. not too small.

see the original photo? you don't have to do a mirror. a nice picture, 2/3rds the size of the console and hung 6" above, would also work.

it's all about proportion. right now, yours doesn't work.

Or, try something like this was a vibrant color. you still have the small lamps, but the beautiful green of the artistic pottery really makes a statement against the dark console.

do you have a light hanging in the entry? Can you back up and take another picture?

Your final photo indicates the piece is too long for that wall. For better balance, 25% of wall should be exposed at either end of the piece. Do you have a longer wall that has a shorter piece so you could switch them?

Hello Beth H., Thank you for all the ideas. I am taking inspiration from them. As I have mentioned earlier the cabinets are only 7 inches wide. So I am looking for narrow pieces that go with a modern theme.

Emmy, not sure what the measurement has to do w/anything. I posted ideas that you could use to decorate the wall. (either art or a mirror) along with a few knick knacks on top or your console to even things out.

you could also stack some books, maybe a tall vase w/twigs (if you can't use lamps)

Try moving those orange flowers over by the front door, do the right corner where you have the little orange pot. Everything you currently have on that long console is too small.

This is classic and very doable. find a piece of art that is 2/3rd's the size of your console. mount it just above the top. now bring in a neutral lamp for one side (prob your right side) stack some books, and some other neutral tones, or pick one color you like. I also like the rug in front of it.

Remember, art or the mirror, do not hang it too high above the top.

or how about something like this? mirror, art, leaning against the wall, lamp on the right, tall, thin plant on the left. (your orange pot/plant is too small and too low. )

see? you can do thin lamps on each side, a vase w/twigs, and a nice piece of art. (not as tall as this one)

Here is the most recent update per advice here. Feedbacks are welcome!

It looks like the candlesticks and vase are afraid of the mirror and cowering in the corners.

Look over all the good suggestions you already received, and pay attention to the scale (the size) of the objects. You are selecting tiny items.

Working with what you have, I moved the vase close to the mirror, and replaced the clumpy too tall dried stems with some budding pussy willow. I grouped three candlesticks with proper height candles (yours are too short). A group of three is more pleasing than two sets of two soldiers side by side. I elevated the too small bowl on top of a couple decorative books to give it a presence.

Some color would be nice as well.

Any feedback?

I would put the white vase on the left side, and all 4 candlesticks to the right. Nothing under the mirror.

If you take your photo from the front rather than the side, and stand back a little bit, it would give us a better idea of how this looks in the room. It would be good to see how this relates to the the other decor in the room and on the staircase wall.

@partim, This is a hallway. There is not much room to step back. If you look at my other photos, there is one that shows the other connected space.
