Could crown rot develop this fast?

As I've already posted, these plants came Saturday. I put them in water to hydrate and left them until now (Monday morning). I started to pot them up. I got to the second one and noticed that the crown had rot on it. I washed it off and it's a good bit of it (1/3) was rotten. It's not on the roots, but on the crown. I decided to toss it.

Now I'm concerned about introducing a rot into the few hosta I have left. The rhizoctonia root rot flourishes in cool damp weather. There basically is no cure. Once it "blooms", there is no stopping it.

Would 48 hours in water induce rot?
