Where do you keep your phone when out for a walk?

Since we don't carry purses when out for a walk or run, where do you put your cell phone? Mine weighs 9 ounces and it pulls my shorts down if I keep it in a pocket. Most shorts don't even have pockets deep enough for them. Is it time to buy a fanny pack?

I have a low-profile waist pack by Kavu that works well for the phone when I'm hiking or out for a run. $30 on the Kavu site.

I use a small fanny pack if I don’t have pockets.

Sometimes a fanny pack or a small backpack. If it’s just a walk (not vigorous hiking), I have shorts with pockets for phones. Examples:

I use my pocket and yes it pulls it down, but I don't want to a fanny pack

    If I don't have pockets, I use a cross-body travel pouch.

All my shorts, capris and long yoga-style pants that I wear for walking have phone pockets. They are easy to find and very convenient for my phone and a tissue or car key.

I have to carry my phone on me when I hike, as that's when I stumble upon some of my best photo opps.

I have to carry my phone because that’s when I stumble, period!

A vision just popped into my head of fanny packs stitched up from cotton face masks.

If they were put together with a lightweight plastic zipper, one could just unzip in an emergency (after dialing 911).

I don't carry it when running but when hiking I do just in case. But I also always have water with me so my waist pouch for my water bottles has a pouch that it will fit into.

Pocket or no phone, though I have an Apple Watch, so there is no need. I do carry a non-phone camera sometimes.

I wear a fanny pack at work because I need to keep a water bottle close during hour long tours. I hate the look, but it is a necessity. My friend told me the younger generation wears their fanny packs differently:

    Looks so cute on her.

Seconding the yoga pants/shorts idea. You ars looking for tight compression shorts or capris with pockets. Phone doesn't fall out and the material doesn't sag.

Tennis skorts are very comfortable and many look nice enough for off court wear. Many of those have built in pockets. Added bonus is they cover up the compression shorts, for those of us who are....widening in our middle age. 😄

I prefer running with my dog in my neighborhood and when I do, I like to carry a light weight hydration pack. Makes it easy to drink water as I go and I've trained my dog to drink when I squirt water from the tube by her mouth. Mine has a handy little zip pocket on the chest for a phone. It's kind of like this, but older and not lime green.

When I am just going for a casual walk, I'll often wear leggings with a side pocket where I put my phone. These are my favorite right now. Very soft and comfortable and super affordable.

If I'm hiking, I wear a slightly hydration backpack with room for emergency supplies (emergency blanket, first aid kit, snacks, etc). I think I have four different hydration packs (running, super light hiking, regular hiking, backpacking).

I use a crossbody water bottle holder with a pocket for my phone.

I made my own...can go around my neck or over the shoulder...

I've always worn fanny packs/beltbags like that 🙃

Side pockets here - I think whoever came up with that is a genius.

Before those were available, I have a small crossbody knapsack I can sling across my chest.

But I often don't even bother to take my phone with me when I'm just walking in the neighborhood. I have a tiny iPod shuffle that clips on so I can listen to podcasts or music while exercising.

At home. No phone when out in the garden or walking...disconnected is aok. Remember life before them..you would venture out all alone!!! AMAZING! It stays in my purse at work all day too. Most people have them in their pockets I notice.

I take it for emergency purposes only. Once I stepped on a raised bit of pavement and twisted my ankle horribly. I had to walk home a few blocks but fortunately I was with a friend.

There are some great ideas here. I didn't even know there are shorts with phone pockets.

I use a spibelt, which also doubles for safely carrying my passport/ID when traveling. It hides easily under clothing. For hiking/walking and other outdoor activities during which I want my phone, I find it stretches enough to accommodate phone, ID, and keys.

My "fanny pack" is squared off and small -- kind of like this one from Lululemon (this is not me). A lot of people are wearing their packs crossbody these days:

But I wear it across my back, like this:

I tried to just work with pockets (also for my bulky car keys ) but it doesn't always work. So I bought a bag on Am and believe it or not, I wear it all the time. I just checked and I bought it in June 2021. It was going to be a temporary thing but it's so simple and works that here it is a year later and I haven't used another bag this whole year. (even when I traveled).

salonva, I just bought that same exact bag! it arrived today. cheap, but seems about as well made as anything you could find at Target. I love the super simple design. sometimes I need a bigger bag like this so I can stuff a light jacket into it.

Wow that is funny! It' s lasted and is in fine shape. It fits a water bottle, my kindle, a brush, you name it. And it's small. I don't even really focus on it- it's like an exterior pocket.

Honestly I have used it every day. When I travel or I need something bigger (like taking the grands to the zoo....) I take a canvas tote bag. in addition.

Hope you love it as much as I do

I just learned this is called a sling bag - bigger than a beltbag/fanny pack, but smaller than a backpack. Mine is black nylon fabric with a small pocket on the front. You can wear it in front or in back.

The SPIbelt that Feathers uses seems to have styles to suit every need, including crossbody, and it's made in the U.S. The Original fits phones 6" long and mine is 6 1/2 with the cover so I'd have to get the large pocket version.

A phone when out walking, especially alone, is a very good idea. A friend of mine was walking, tripped and broke her ankle. She didn't have her phone with her. She pulled herself along the road until she could get to where someone would see her and then yell for help!

I prefer the smaller size Iphone, which will easily fit in a pocket and not pull it down.

Annie, why does your phone pocket remind me of the Chippendale's? (blush)

I wear, a very light pair of hiking pants from Eddie Bauer or LL Beans that have cargo pockets. I need to carry an Epi Pen, inhaler, car keys, and my phone. If I wear a pair of pants that have a pocket on each leg I can also carry a water bottle. Depending on the pants I often wear a belt to keep my pants up. Maybe not the most fashionable, but it works for me. I usually hike 5 to 7 miles several days a week.

I have a very small, lightweight crossbody bag - large enough for my phone, ID, bandanna and a dollar or two. I also have a water bottle that goes in an insulated, crossbody holder.

If I want to carry more than that, like a lunch or snacks, I have a couple of musettes (lightweight, thin fabric bags with a strap) that I picked up at professional bike races. They are roomy enough for the water bottle, snacks, and everything else I need to carry on a longer hike or walk.

My phone case is a cross body. I wear it across my body, but still put the phone in a pocket so it doesn't bounce around while walking.

My daughters wear their fanny packs cross body as shown above. I always take my phone when walking, it's turned to silent but there if I need it - seems it always fits in the pockets of the leggings or shorts that I wear. I didn't always take it but a year or so ago, my dog saw a cat, I got tangled in his leash and fell in the thick of a blackberry bush. I had to fight my way out and scratched .my whole body and face in the process. We were only a couple of hundred metres from home and if I had had my phone, I would have called my husband to come with a machete and get me out.

I don’t take mine. My walks always involve two dogs and two leashes.

I walk in leggings that have the side pockets as illustrated above. I listen to podcasts on my daily 3.5-mile walk with the dogs. Phone is in the right pocket, AirPod case and poop bags in the left pocket. @Kswl, I’m fortunate that my two dogs are super easy loose-leash walkers. Very little confusion or drama!

I use a waist bag and always carry my phone, lip balm and house key. I used to not carry my phone, but then I fell and broke my ankle. Now I take it with me everywhere. I enjoy listening to music or audio books when I walk sometimes, too.

I take long walks with my dogs so like to listen to audiobooks, making it necessary to have my phone with me. I generally wear exercise leggings or exercise skorts that have the side pocket on the leg so I can my phone in that. For casual walks, most of my non-exercise shorts have at least a back pocket that can hold my phone. I did buy an armband at one point but it is too much of a hassle trying to use it so now I just make sure my exercise gear have the side pocket.

Years ago, I bought a SpiBelt that I wore when running in races - it was lightweight and held a lot (phone, money, energy chews, keys, etc). I still have it but my current phone is too big for it, but I suppose the newer ones would fit newer, larger phones.

SpiBelt. They are stretchy enough to accommodate larger phones, a key, ID, and i used to carry a couple of energy supplements when long distance running. The spibelt doesnt bounce around like anything else. For shorter runs i would use a pocket in my shorts like Jinx posted. I always made sure I could carry a phone in case of emergency or used it for music sometimes.

Arcy you obviously have not been stranded somewhere without means of communication.

I just carry it. I listen to music while I walk, so I need my phone. I also like having it in case I need to call DH. I’ve been caught in a suprise thunderstorm. It’s nice to be able to get a ride hone if I need it!

I use FlipBelt. It is flat and holds my phone snuggly against my waist, hidden under my shirt. It is easy to remove the phone when needed but I really only take mine for emergencies. It holds tightly for runs too. I also have the slim water bottle that fits in the belt. Bought mine from A.

My Eddie Bauer hiking pants have really deep front pockets that can hold a phone. I just got some Athleta skorts that have phone pockets. But otherwise I hold my phone. I have one of those little card holders on the back to keep ID and credit card.

I use a very old fanny pack for a purse, and this thread has inspired me to update it...hard to do as I get used to the old one and don't want to change a thing...

But I went looking and came across this?!?

And this? A fake dad belly!
