It's hard to advise without the size of the room and of the furniture at the very least and even better would be a drawn layout of the room with all measurements doors and windows and openings on it.

@cubby14 this is a very bad drawing with measurements.

We had the same delima - we ended up taping out the dimensions of the furniture on the floor to not only make sure it fit, but that the flow between pieces worked. the last thing you want is to have everything crammed in too small a space.

Have you considered a sofa + ottoman? Far more forgiving if you want to rearrange in the future.

With L.D. Johnson’s suggestion in mind, I tried to find a photo of a couch flanked by two chairs with a large ottoman in the center. I would never use uncomfortable chairs like this photo, though, and you’ll have to imagine the coffee table as a large ottoman.

We have a sectional with chaise and ottoman attached, all three pieces do come apart though. Then we have two chairs and a coffee table. For us this is ideal and seats is all comfortably. We have floor cushions and other chairs we pull in if more then 9 people are over

This is what i’m thinking we are a family of 5 and right now just have a large sectional. Its hard to accomodate guests when kids are flopped all over!

We are also a family of five. The ottoman after tue chaise really adds space. It creates more seats.

This is our space, right now so chaotic, but works well for us.

Layout: Will both sliding doors be used for outside access and will you have a tv (only one wall available). If yes to both, consider a sectional placed with its back to the half wall/pillars (add a console behind) with two chairs opposite. Create an on line room planner to test layouts (below but tv and sectional reversed).

Seating: Your sectional choice really only sits two comfortably, as 3rd person has to be laying back. I’d still go with a 5 seater and with two chairs and ottomans. Also consider the fabrics’ color, durability and practicality.

Style: Think big picture, decide on your room’s color pallette and how you would like it to feel before you start purchasing things and take your time accessorizing. Thought McGee and Co video below might help with cushions.
